SYNOPSIS

War is the only opportunity that men have in this world to love each other unconditionally. It is not only about weapons, technology and CNN, it is also about men being put together in extreme circumstances and becoming ready to kill and be killed for each other.

In April 2011, while covering the conflict in Libya, Tim Hetherington and fellow photographer Chris Hondros were killed by Libyan forces in the city of Misrata. According to Reporters Without Borders, 71 journalists were killed last year while reporting: 2013 brought a dramatic increase in journalist abductions and was the second worst year on record for jailed journalists. Tim Hetherington worked on the border between photojournalism and documentary film-making. He photographed the experience of war mostly in West Africa and the Middle East; his documentary Restrepo (co-directed with Sebastian Junger), about a platoon of soldiers in Afghanistan, was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and was nominated for an Academy Award. Whether working in Liberia, Afghanistan or Lybia, Hetherington’s work was about human nature, human connections and, not least, about male camaraderie at war. Which Way Is The Front Line From Here is a remarkable, moving tribute brought by a friend and fellow practitioner to an inspiring man who died while doing good. “He didn’t see the difference between being a photographer, a humanitarian, a videographer, or a participant: he was just Tim…”.
