synopsis

What kind of childhood do we wish for our children? At what age do we send them off on the never-ending path of competitiveness and accumulation of knowledge? These are only some of the questions evoked by this atmospheric observation piece about the children enrolled in a Waldorf nursery in Denmark. The children do not learn letters and numbers. Rather, they use nature and interaction with friends as ways to learn and connect with the world around them. While filmmaker Margreth Olin does not openly advocate for the Waldorf system, this delightful film about childhood as a space of play, discovery, and freedom ends up charming the viewer into wishing that other children could enjoy their early years as much. And yes, you will want to clone the educator who appears in the film for your child’s nursery.
