Memory in Motion: Debates and Screenings

18 March, 13:00
Rezidența BRD Scena9

The event accompanies and expands the topic of audiovisual archives (explored in the selection of recent films and in the films included in the Diaries of Jonas Mekas section of the line-up) and the section Past Present, which highlights the present day relevance of certain historical phenomena and the role they’ve played in shaping the present. One of the reasons we chose these themes is related to our constant pursuit of recovering the documentary heritage of the “Alexandru Sahia” Studio.

13.00: Launch of the Asociația Profesioniștilor din Cinematografie CineActiv’s campaign regarding the importance of film archives.

Screening of short films using archive footage especially made for the campaign by filmmakers Radu Jude, Monica Lăzurean-Gorgan, Cristina Haneș, Nora Agapi, Alina Manolache, Dragoș Hanciu and Andra Popescu.

14.00: The Archives Game with filmmakers Bill Morrison, Péter Forgács and Dana Bunescu.

16.00-18.00: Film Archives of the Former Communist Bloc with Oksana Sarkisova (Blinken Open Society Archives, CEU - Budapest), Stefanie Eckert (DEFA Foundation), Michael Loebenstein (General Secretary of FIAF, Director of the Austrian Film Museum – Vienna) and Mihai Fulger (Director of the Romanian National Film Archive).
