Proiecție desfășurată în prezența: regizorilor Ileana Bîrsan și Claudiu Mitcu
Procedural documentaries that seek to follow and untangle a case are rare in Romania, perhaps because the justice system in this country is by turns opaque and confounding, easily ripping any investigative threads to shreds. This documentary confirms the rule by trying to follow a case with ethical patience, puzzled honesty, and reverence for ambiguity: Mihai Moldoveanu, sentenced to 25 years for killing a man, goes from the hands of local prosecutors to the benches of national courts and the offices of the European Court of Human Rights only to end up back in the bowels of Romanian penitentiaries. For his part, Moldoveanu proclaims his innocence and tries to keep his case and the film’s narrative under control. The audience can judge the results for themselves.
