One World Romania IDFF celebrates its 10th edition!

The One World Romania International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival celebrates its 10th edition in 2017. Between March 13th and March 19th over 50 documentaries, selected from over 1300 submissions, will be screened in Bucharest in cinemas Elvire Popesco, Eforie and Union. In addition, we will schedule all throughout the week several side events such as debates, workshops, exhibitions.

At One World Romania’s 10th edition we will talk about fear – in general – and about its different manifestations in our society. We live in a global world, but we tend to return to the past, to draw new borders, to lock ourselves behind walls. Corrupt politicians from all over the world take advantage of our weaknesses and concerns and gain power by exploiting these feelings. Those who are weakest are bullied everyday by those more powerful. Some more determined of us are swimming against the tide, sacrificing all they have got. The documentaries presented in One World Romania explore the origins of our fears and how we can surpass them.

One World Romania’s visual identity is portrarying the main theme of the festival by using the russian dolls. Each of the ten dolls represents an edition of our festival, but also a representation of fear. The dolls swallow each other one by one until the last – The-Big-Good-Matryoska, which contains and tempers them all. The matryoskas we used to illustrate the festival in 2017 are painted by Pisica Pătrată (Alexandru Ciubotariu) and animated by Tudor OM. The graphics on all festival materials is done by Crina Ioana Athanasiu and Adriana Jipa.

We will soon announce the final selection of the documentaries screened at the 10th edition of One World Romania. Until then, we encourage the young festival-goers to write us about how they perceive fear. Students enrolled in highschool, grades 9-12 can apply until February 19th 2017 for One World Romania’s Highschool Jury, by writing and sending an essay with the subject “Fear creates monsters. Resist it!”. From all applicants, the organizers will choose 5 youngsters who will award the only prize of the festival. More details on the jury are available here:

One World Romania 10 awaits for its audience in cinemas between the 13th and the 19th of March 2017.

Let’s challenge our fears together!
