Youth Days at One World Romania 19: More than 800 teenagers to engage with documentary film as a tool for civic action
16 April 2026

Following the success of the previous two editions, more than 800 teenagers are invited to attend once again, on April 27–28, the Youth Days within the One World Romania International Documentary & Human Rights Film Festival, a program designed especially for them during the festival. Three film screenings accompanied by educational dialogues, 11 workshops led by NGOs and high school students, as well as a volunteering fair are waiting for them at the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Bucharest.

This year’s program is expanding, focusing on creating connections between generations. For the first time, the OWR Youth Days will include activities for middle school pupils and a pilot format dedicated to university students. Participation in all events is free of charge, with prior registration required: https://forms.gle/KA3RkLaFSkHohzqb7.

The cinematic experience will be complemented by civic and media education workshops that cover a range of important topics, from youth rights in relation to technology and sign language, to consent and how to intervene when witnessing cases of sexual violence. The workshops are developed in collaboration with Pe Stop Association, Techsoup Association, Peasant Museum Image Archive, eLiberare, the Faculty of Theatre and Film, Babeș-Bolyai University, the “Sfânta Maria” Special High School for the Hearing Impaired, Save the Children Romania, Romanian Angel Appeal, Scrisori pentru Viitor, Tineri pentru Tineri, and VIS – Victimele Infracțiunilor Sexuale Association.

For the first time, One World Romania will also host a special screening which will be accessibilized for various hearing abilities, featuring the film “A Quiet Love” (dir. Garry Keane), a preview of an episode from the miniseries “Princess Warrior” (dir. Ioana Țurcan), about the experience of being a woman in high-performance sports in Romania, screened in the presence of its protagonist, para-athlete Ana Coman, and a special intergenerational communication workshop for teenagers and adults, using the film “Sister of Mine” (dir. Mariusz Rusiński) as a starting point. The format dedicated to university students launches alongside Assistant Professor, PhD Oana Ivan and a group of students from the Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, focusing on inclusive practices in filmmaking.

This year also marks the launch of a curatorial internship for two students from the “I.L. Caragiale” National University of Theatre and Film, who developed a short film program for high school students, “Becomings”, focused on ambition, dreams, and vulnerability, as well as one for middle school students, “Paths”, which proposes a journey through the diversity of the world. At the same time, the OWR19 team will be joined by a junior division, OWR Youth Crew, through which several high schoolers will be directly involved in implementing the program, including holding workshops, photo documentation, and moderating educational sessions. The visual identity of this third Youth Days edition is also created by one of them, namely Robert Ștefana.

Last but not least, 12 organizations from various fields will welcome teenagers interested in volunteering opportunities at the Volunteering Fair, taking place on Tuesday, April 28, between 11:00 and 19:30 in the foyer of the cinema and in the Irina Nicolau hall:

Techsoup Association
The Center for Independent Journalism
eLiberare Association
