6 September 2022

We kindly invite you to submit your film to the 16th edition of our festival, which will take place between 31st of March and 9th of April 2023, in Bucharest, Romania. Submissions are open until the 15th of November 2022.

The festival is focused on non-fiction films that cover subjects such as: human rights, social/ political/ environmental/race issues, LGBTQ+, civism/global citizens, justice, free speech.

Good to know: Eastern European & Global South creative documentaries will be prioritized, as a way to encourage communication between nations and the promotion of films from less privileged territories. A representative of each film is invited to participate in the festival and will be offered free travel and accommodation. Our festival is focused on authentic dialogues with the filmmakers as much as on screening the films - so your presence is much valued.

In addition, the 16th edition of One World Romania will host a video exhibition as a side event, for which we’re welcoming all submissions of video artworks & installations (up to 15 min) that respect the festival’s profile.

Awards & Prizes

One World Romania is a competitive festival - but one that thinks of competition as a form of dialogue and not as a hierarchy. The festival offers a prize to a debut documentary film (first or second feature film) which will be designated by a Jury of High School Students.

The selection in the festival is the real prize we offer and we will do everything possible for the filmmakers to feel this during their presence at One World Romania. All films participating in the festival receive selection laurels that can be added to the credits of the film.

PROGRAM & ELIGIBILITY

At ONE WORLD ROMANIA, we welcome documentaries dealing with any human rights issues, whether they are short, medium or feature films, as well as video art works or video installations, dedicated to all categories of the public, including children and teenagers. Films must have been produced after January 2021, have English subtitles. The premiere status is irrelevant.

The films must have cinematic qualities, socio-political involvement and a strong presence of the director's point of view, both in form and in content. Those documentaries that address or capture pressing issues facing society from a human rights perspective will be particularly appreciated.

Submitted films must have been produced after January 1, 2021, without exception.

The films will have subtitles in English.

Submitted materials will not be returned. The copies of the registered films will enter the archive of the One World Romania Association, to be used only for non-profit purposes (research, educational and training programs).

Some of the films selected for One World Romania 16 will be screened as part of special events throughout the year (educational programs, caravan, replays, etc.), only with the prior consent of the producer/distributor.

The person submitting the film grants the ONE WORLD ROMANIA festival the right to publish the materials sent for preselection (information related to the film, director, producer, image, film summary), in press materials, catalogs, articles, websites, etc. The person submitting the film is responsible for the accuracy of the data related to the number and name of the authors of the film, the title and the length of the film. All data from the registration form can be used and made public in the festival catalog and on the website.
