Marc Ravalomanana is the former president of Madagascar, exiled in South Africa after he was deposed from power by a coup led by the current leader of the country. The former president is determined to get back in power by peaceful means, even under the threat of arrest and bodily harm, and repeatedly attempts to return to his country. This fascinating political fly-on-the-wall documentary unfolds over the course of five years, with exceptional access to the president and his staff. It documents the fragility of a democracy caught in the middle of neocolonial agendas that require a malleable president to guarantee their monopolies, rather than Ravalomanana, who aims to open the country to foreign investors and to increase its economic autonomy.
