Filmmaker Mary Jirmanus Saba spent seven years weaving this sophisticated, moving texture of images and memory. It tells the story of two factory strikes that took place in the 1970s in Lebanon and, beyond this, the bigger picture of the historical failure of Lebanon’s Left – a moment that was largely forgotten in the shadow of the 1975 civil war. Beyond the relatively unknown historical context that it unveils, the film stands out due to its elaborate, reflexive approach that incorporates the filmmaker’s own hesitations when confronted with people and images coming from the past.
