America is a place of innocence and fear. But mass killings haven’t always been a common occurrence in the United States. The original sin can be traced back to August 1st, 1966, when a 25-year old student began shooting indiscriminately from the central tower of the University of Texas. Until then, the ensuing terror – 96 minutes in which 14 people were killed and 31 were wounded – was unknown. The survivors tell their story through rotoscoped animation, archival footage, and direct interviews whose sources are movingly revealed only long after the animated characters have taken full life on screen. The special aesthetics and expressiveness of the storytelling never distracts from shockingly frank analysis of both the good and the evil ordinary people can do.
