With the ardor of his 25 years, Alexei Lungu lives life to the fullest, even if his village is under soviet occupation. On the night of June 12th 1941, he is the witness of a deportation to Siberia orchestrated by the political police and the Red army. Fifty-five years later, nobody knows anything about Domnica and Dionisie Olaru. Their house has long been demolished. There is no one left of their family. All there is still is Alexei Lungu’s memory of that summer night, now recounted to his grandson and, through him, to us all. A sparsely told, yet moving, snapshot of a deportation to Siberia.
