We are decent, ordinary people. We care for our beloved pets, we love it when our kindergarten children dress as angels or devils, and we want to keep our local pub free of Gypsies (and of those Vietnamese, now that you asked!). They only know how to make children, destroy things and mess around. Blacks can’t change, neither can the Vietnamese, nor the Japanese. That's their culture. It’s in their genes, just check their history. These days everybody drags their lazy asses to our country.

In recent years, Litvínov's Janov neighbourhood has seen a substantial influx of 'problematic' families from all over the country. Their acceptance by the community is hardly a smooth process. Shot with patience and with a clear-sighted, analytical approach, On Decency captures the smells and the shadows of intolerance towards minorities among a portion of the Czech public, and exposes its dark undercurrents in everyday banal situations.

The excellent use of surveillance footage adds poetry and a reflexive element to the increasingly paranoid dynamics of majority/minority relations in Janov.
