The Boy Mir is a “longitudinal documentary” - a type of work in which the film-maker tracks their subjects’ lives over a number of years, sometimes decades. In 2002, Phil Grabsky came across eight-year old boy Mir and his family, who were living among the remains of the giant statues destroyed by Taliban forces several years earlier. He completed a first film about Mir in 2004, then decided to follow him through the subsequent ten years of his life. The result is a sobering, highly personal perspective on the human experience of growing up against the backdrop of war. (Adina Brădeanu)
