Washing Our Dirty Laundry
Washing Our Dirty Laundry
Israel, Palestine
Film-maker Ibtisam Mara’ana moves from her Arab-Muslim village to Tel Aviv in an attempt to stretch the limits of her Palestinian identity. In her words, to go beyond the 77 steps of the home in which she grew up. In Tel-Aviv she meets Jonathan, who is also a newcomer from Canada. They fall for each other, but can a relationship between a woman who struggles with her Palestinian identity while trying to ‘belong’ in Tel-Aviv, and a Canadian born Jewish immigrant who has returned to Tel Aviv in search of his Jewish roots, really work? A moving personal documentary about the power of history and the limits of love. (Adina Brădeanu)
