Yevgeny Rodionov was an ordinary young Russian soldier who fell in Chechnya after being taken prisoner and refusing to convert to Islam. He was proclaimed a martyr and became an unofficial saint for many Russians. Yevgeny's mother is unable to let go of her grief. Dedicated to keeping his iconic memory alive she strives for his official canonisation, supported by Orthodox priests, Hells Angels, and the Russian army, which uses his legend as an example for young soldiers. While the saint's mother appears in TV shows, young cadets are preparing to sacrifice themselves and follow in the footsteps of their hero.
