When a young woman discovers her funny and playful great-grandfather, as she recalls him from her memories and family photos and films, was an ex-SS official, the past becomes a touchstone for an entire family.
The documentarist attempts to reconsider the grand-grandfather`s profile are met with either half truths and unaccountable omissions in Pape`s diary, fear or shame from his family members, pertinent arguments towards weighing priorities and choices in a specific historical set and not last with a lucid battle of her own consciousness.
