The dehumanized figures of malnourished children, the desperate look of raped women or the tormented postures of men exhausted from hard labour are images which have circled the globe and have become icons of suffering and poverty related to the African continent. The Dutch artist Renzo Martens spends several years in Congo without discovering any actual benefit for the natives, despite the massive media exploitation, coming both from photo journalists and humanitarian organizations. Thus, in an extravagant manner and with a satirical tone, Martens decides to teach the locals how to take advantage of the sole and most precious natural resource at their disposal: poverty.
