The town of Thiaroye in Senegal is not the peaceful fishermen’s village it used to be. As fish supplies dwindle and leave families hungry, all fishermen want to leave. Modou has made two unsuccessful attempts to leave his home shores and, like all the others, as soon as he gets enough money, he’ll try again. Globalization and de-colonization have changed the lives of millions, yet few independent films have been able to reveal personal stories like Modou`s to illustrate the emotional and cultural consequences.
