KineDok - Creative Documentaries in Alternative Venues
KineDok is a unique European program, running simultaneously in five partner countries: the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia and Romania, where it is coordinated by the One World Romania Association, in close partnership with the film festival.
Each of the participating countries contributes some of their latest documentaries, which are screened in hundreds of alternative venues – museums, libraries, high schools, gardens, galleries – bridging cultures and communities. Audiences have the chance to watch a selection of films that are not usually screened in regular cinemas and to take part in lively post-screening debates with filmmakers and local experts from different fields.
Unlike other events promoting documentary film, KineDok addresses not only cinephiles, but also audiences which do not usually attend film festivals or other documentary film screenings, and also targets localities where cultural activities are less varied. KineDok events help audiences to stay connected with local and national current affairs and with cultural, social and political issues from around the world.
Starting May 2026, the 12th edition will showcase a new feature film catalogue, a program of heritage shorts from partner countries, two archival films from Romania and the Czech Republic, three immersive VR experiences and a new section called Best of the Fest, dedicated to films with an impressive international festival track record.
At OWR19, KineDok returns with its annual meeting with the program's local partners – organizers throughout the country. Together with collaborators from Bistrița, Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Galați, Oradea, Petroșani, Rădăuți, Sibiu, Slobozia, Suceava and Timișoara we prepare the new edition and set out the screening schedule for the following year.
During the workshop-meeting at Seneca Anticafe – which is also one of the organizers of KineDok screenings in Bucharest – participants will have the opportunity to talk with Andreea Lăcătuș, director of the One World Romania Festival, about moderating the discussions that accompany most screenings. At the same time, local partners will meet directors Mihai Gavril Dragolea and Radu Mocanu (“Tooth and Nail”) and Simona Constantin (“CALIU: Nothing else, what else can I do?”), whose documentaries are part of the KineDok 12 selection, and will watch VR films from the new catalog.
