This year we turn 18 and, more than ever before, we set out to make our voices heard. But we don’t want to do it alone. We want the emerging voices who have something urgent to say to join us in a pilot program meant to discover and give a platform to new talents, to make sure their perspective matters and plays an important part in the ongoing conversation.

The program will take place during the 18th edition of One World Romania (April 4–13, 2025) and will accept submissions from up-and-coming filmmakers, including students and recent graduates, who have directed at least one short film, documentary or hybrid, dealing with a human rights topic. Three filmmakers will be selected and invited to OWR18, where they will have the opportunity to present their work during a special screening attended by professionals from the film industry and civil society, take part in panels and networking events designed especially for them, and will be offered access to a whole network of professional support.

The deadline for applications is March 14, 2025.

Eligibility criteria:

To be eligible to apply, participants must fulfill the following conditions:

• You must live in Romania;

• You must be a filmmaker who hasn’t directed a feature film yet;

• You must have in your portfolio at least one short film, documentary or hybrid, dealing with a human rights topic;

• The short film with which you apply was produced between February 2020 and February 2025, has a maximum running time of 30 minutes, and is subtitled in Romanian (if the language spoken in the film is other than Romanian) and English;

• You are available to attend the 18th edition of One World Romania Festival, which will run between April 4–13, 2025;

The selected participants agree to grant the right to screen their work during the festival free of charge, without any screening fee. If the participant is not from Bucharest, One World Romania can cover transportation and accommodation during the festival.
