A boat and a camera. A fisherman and a film director in the middle of a deserted lake. There’s no need for words. The fisherman lost his hearing during the Bosnian War. The filmmaker, himself a Bosnian, but born and raised in the Netherlands, lost his mother tongue due to a speech disorder which marked his childhood. Language tears them apart, their vulnerabilities draw them together. The camera carefully and curiously mediates this unusual bond which blossoms among mysterious landscapes, somewhere at the border between dream and reality, memory and present. A friendship which transcends the barriers of senses, age, as well as personal histories, and is expressed non-verbally through the universal language of humanity. The fisherman takes on mythical proportions in the director’s eyes. He is not a marginal, a man rejected by society and exiled on a desert island on account of war traumas, but a misunderstood water god, whom nor waves, nor wind, nor storms can perturb in his journey, who lives just as freely as the wild horses grazing peacefully on the shores of the lake.
