The International Documentary & Human Rights Film Festival One World Romania is kicking off the pre-sale campaign for its 18th edition. Over its course, OWR aims to sell at least 500 full passes for the festival to run its course as planned. The Early Bird passes, available through Eventbook.ro at the discounted price of 200 lei, indicate a vote of confidence in the festival and allow access to both in-person and online screenings. In Bucharest, the festival will take place from April 4-13 at Cinema Peasant Museum, Cinema Elvire Popesco and Cinema Union. Afterwards, many of the films will also be available to stream online, from anywhere in Romania, from April 14-30.
Based on the idea that we all live in our own bubbles, OWR18 wants the audience to step out of them during this special edition, which will be more focused on dialogue. “Ya hear me?!” is the tagline of the edition, which takes a fresh approach to the festival experience and calls for communication and togetherness in a society increasingly divided by crises and extremist discourses. The festival program, to be unveiled soon, will be a more easygoing one, featuring several community events and screenings followed by extended open discussions, which will allow for more interaction between the audience, special guests and the festival team, as well as the opportunity to get to know each other.
“The collective nature of the program will manifest itself in several special events that emphasize the need for dialogue and understanding. In this age of polarization, where perspectives are often reduced to stark contrasts with little room for nuance or dialogue, we must focus on building bridges of understanding. Simply dismissing or stigmatizing differing views does not address the root causes of division, rather, it deepens them. Our aim is to create a dialogue across time and generations – a conversation that connects past and present, promoting understanding and reflection among us all,” declared OWR18 curators Anca Păunescu and Andrei Tănăsescu.
“Ya hear me?!" is also the question Maia and Cabiria Morgenstern ask themselves in the first video teaser of the OWR18 campaign. The mother-daughter duo try to understand each other, but the bubbles they each live in always get in the way.

At the same time, taking into account the symbolism of the 18th edition and one of the curatorial directions, concerned with the passage of time and change in all its forms, OWR is also launching the #GrewUpWithOWR campaign, meant to raise awareness around the festival’s impact after 17 years of existence. Festivalgoers who have attended previous editions and have a long-standing relationship with the festival are encouraged to share their memories on social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok), using the hashtag #CrescutCuOWR and tagging the official page (@oneworldromania).

Established in 2009, the One World Romania Association organizes the only documentary film and human rights festival in the country, One World Romania, which takes place annually in Bucharest. The association works with documentary film as a vehicle for social and political dialogue, as a window to the world and an environment that prompts reflection. Through its activities, the association supports the development of the demand for documentaries in Romania, leading in recent years to an increased interest in this genre, both among the general public and within educational programs.
