One World Romania #17 Call for Films Now Open
12 September 2023

We kindly invite you to submit your film to the 17th edition of ONE WORLD ROMANIA International Documentary & Human Rights Film Festival, which will take place between April 5th – 14th, 2024, in Bucharest, Romania.

If your film is a feature, mid-length or short creative documentary finished after January 1st, 2022, regardless of its premiere status, make sure to send it our way, to be considered for cinema screening in one of the festival sections.

One World Romania is the first documentary film festival established in Bucharest as well as the only Romanian festival dedicated to human rights. Over its first 16 editions, the festival has turned into a civic and cinematic platform, promoting documentary film as a vehicle for social and political dialogue, a window to the world, a medium that sparks reflection and forms communities.

The festival is focused on non-fiction films that cover subjects such as: human rights, social/political/environmental/race issues, LGBTQIA+, civism/global citizens, justice, free speech.

Good to know: Eastern European & Global South creative documentaries will be prioritized, as a way to encourage communication between nations and the promotion of films from less privileged territories.

A representative of each selected film is invited to participate in the festival and will be offered free travel and accommodation. Our festival is focused on authentic dialogues with the filmmakers as much as on screening the films – so your presence is much valued.

A submission fee will be charged to cover administrative costs: 20 EUR (feature, mid-length, short documentaries).

ONLINE SUBMISSION FORM:

FILM SUBMISSION DEADLINE:

November 15th, 2023

AWARDS:

One World Romania is a competitive festival – but one that thinks of competition as a form of dialogue and not as a hierarchy. The festival offers an award to a documentary film which will be designated by a Jury of High School Students.

The selection in the festival is the real prize we offer and we will do everything possible for the filmmakers to feel this during their presence at One World Romania. All films participating in the festival receive selection laurels that can be added to the credits of the film.

RULES & TERMS:

At One World Romania, we welcome documentaries dealing with any human rights issues, whether they are short, medium or feature films, dedicated to all categories of the public, including children and teenagers.

Films must have been produced after January 1st, 2022, and have English subtitles. The premiere status is irrelevant.

The films must have cinematic qualities, socio-political involvement and a strong presence of the director's point of view, both in form and in content. Those documentaries that address or capture pressing issues facing society from a human rights perspective will be particularly appreciated.

Some of the films selected for One World Romania 17 will be screened as part of special events throughout the year (educational programs, caravan, replays etc.), only with the prior consent of the producer/distributor.

The person submitting the film grants the One World Romania festival the right to publish the materials sent for preselection (information related to the film, director, producer, image, film summary etc.), in press materials, catalogues, articles, websites, in case the film is selected. The person submitting the film is responsible for the accuracy of the data.

SELECTION:

The selection result will be communicated to the applicants by February 1st, 2024.

Once a film is selected and the screening rights are negotiated with their holders, the film cannot be withdrawn from the One World Romania festival program. Also, One World Romania receives the right to use trailers (no longer than 3 min.) and advertising materials about the author(s) and/or film to promote the festival.

The programming of the selected films is at the discretion of the festival organizers.

PARTICIPATION:

One World Romania insists that the author(s) of the films in the program or a representative of the director/producer be present at the official screening. Transport and accommodation are provided by the organizers for one representative from each film.

By submitting your film to One World Romania 2024 festival, you confirm that you have read and agree to the One World Romania festival regulations. The inclusion of your film in the program guarantees the festival the rights mentioned in these regulations.
